As the new season stirs into life, Modbury Cricket Club has seen a little reshuffle in the committee room — all perfectly civilised, with no raised voices and only the faintest rustle of paperwork.
After many years of sterling service, Phil Smith has stepped down as Club Secretary. Phil has been a steadfast hand on the tiller for a long time, and the club owes him a hearty vote of thanks for all his hard work, patience, and dedication over the years.
Taking on the role of Club Secretary, in addition to his existing duties as Fixture Secretary, is Mark Trevethan — a man clearly not afraid of a well-stocked inbox.
There has also been a change in the vice-captaincy. Tom Hatch has stepped down as Vice-Captain, with Lee Merchant taking up the post. Happily, Tom remains on the committee, so the club is not entirely deprived of his counsel and good sense.
Our sincere thanks go to both Phil and Tom for all they have done for the club.
The committee for the season ahead is as follows:
- Stuart Binnie – Chairman
- Mark Trevethan – Club and Fixture Secretary
- Guy Speed – Treasurer
- Paul Romney – Head Groundsman
- John Compston – Captain
- Lee Merchant – Vice-Captain & all things play-cricket.com
- Dan Clayton – Social Media Guru and Howard’s boss
- Howard Williams – Website and tech stuff
Here’s to another season of cricket, committee industry, and the sort of quiet efficiency upon which civilisation itself rather depends.
